REFURBISHED DELL LAPTOPS

1. Overview The Dell Studio 17 laptop comes with an Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 processor. Not the latest Penryn processor from Intel but it certainly is good enough. You also get 3 GB RAM, which is more than most laptops out in the market. Given these components, the Dell Studio 17 is still cheaper than competition, plus you get excellent and reliable service from Dell. So what's not to like?

2. Design The design of the Dell Studio 17 is interesting. The unit is thicker in the back than the front, making it look a bit tapered. What is nice about Dell is of course the wide variety of color options available for many of their laptops. So you can choose which ever color suits your fancy. The Dell Studio 17 is in fact more stylish and less bulky than its cousins, the Dell XPS M1530 and the Dell XPS M1730.

3. Display Ok, what about the display? The Dell Studio 17 sports a huge 17-inch WUXGA display. That's lovely for movies and games, and for general work as well. Powered by an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 (not the best graphics card for games, but it'll do), the Dell 17 has enough graphics power to run the latest games. The display has a 1,920-by-1,200 resolution which is definitely good enough for most users.

4. Keyboard and Other Controls The keyboard on the Dell Studio 17 provides a nice typing experience. You'll like the way the keys depress to just the right level, and also how the mouse buttons are soft and quiet. The numeric keypad is also a plus (it seems these numeric keypads are being shipped in the latest laptops out there).

5. Ports and Connections Ok, on to the ports and connections on the Dell Studio 17. There are 5 USB ports, HDMI-out, and twin speakers on this baby. The speakers are an absolute dream, they sound fantastic when playing music or games. Throw in the latest 802.11n wireless connectivity and a nice Blu-ray drive, and we can't have much to complain about the unit.

6. Battery Life The battery life on the Dell Studio 17 is about 3 hours 30 minutes, according to benchmarks. That is excellent battery life. You can of course save some power by turning down the screen brightness or wireless connectivity, which should bring the battery life to 4 hours or more. On the whole, the laptop has good battery life, considering its features.

7. Shortcomings Perhaps the only shortcoming of the Dell 17 is that it is not Intel Centrino 2 based. With the new wave of laptops sporting the Intel Centrino 2 platform, the Dell Studio 17 has missed the boat slightly. If you can overlook this, it is still one fine laptop.
Conclusion If you need a nice and cheap laptop that has good components and a fabulous widescreen, the Studio 17 is definitely one model to look at.

No doubt it does not have the super-duper latest components, but its overall features and price make up for it. It's also nice to know it has a spanking new Blu-ray drive for those Blu-ray movies. So if you're in the market for a good widescreen, go and take a look at the Dell Studio 17 now!

HTC PRO 2

So, how do you make HTC's Touch Pro -- already near the top of the WinMo heap -- an even beefier device? For starters, you can throw out that nasty VGA screen of yesteryear and up it with a 3.6-inch 800 x 480 replacement.
Next, add a dedicated touch-sensitive zoom slider that works overtime to take maximum advantage of said screen, then throw in a few key carryovers: 512MB of ROM, 288MB of RAM, microSD expansion, and a 3.2 megapixel cam. Meet the Touch Pro2, the official follow-up to HTC's popular series of QWERTY sliders that introduces so-called "Straight Talk" technology for "seamlessly" transitioning conversations between email, single-line calls, and party calls.
It'll also automatically switch to the crazy high-performance, full-duplex speakerphone simply by flipping the phone over, so it's clear that this bad boy was meant for business. It'll launch early in the second quarter in parts of Asia and Europe with other "major global markets" following in early Summer. Check out a shot of the Touch Pro2 in its fully (and delightfully) articulated position after the break.

H T C M A G I C T H E G - 2

Y’all might know the next Android phone from HTC as the G2, but around these here parts we know it as the HTC Magic. An exclusive to Vodafone in Europe, the Magic is of debatable sexyness when compared to the T-Mobile G1 (and looks very Sony Ericsson, does it not?) and just happens to be one those phones that we’re just dying to know more about.

But for now we can safely say that the Magic will feature HSPA, WiFi and GPS connectivity along with a 3.2 megapixel camera — sans flash — and of course come with a healthy dose of that sweet, sweet Cupcake that so many of you G1 users are clamoring for.

Now we can’t say with absolute certainty when this thing will released or even announced, but since MWC is going on and with CTIA just around the corner, now is as good a time as ever to steal the spotlight from those damn pesky competitors.

Oh, one more thing… don’t be too shocked if the name Magic is replaced with Pioneer. Just sayin’. Hit the jump for some more shots.

NOKIA THE NEW INNOVATION

NOKIA AT OVI STORE

At the Mobile Word Congress in Barcelona, Nokia has unveiled its initiative to try and repeat the runaway succes of Apple’s App Store with its own mobile storefront dubbed Ovi Store. This was an expected move as the rumors about the Finnish mobile juggernaut’s mobile applications store already spread last week; they were late confirmed to Reuters by industry sources.

Here’s how they pitch it:

“Offering a range of content including applications, games, videos, widgets, podcasts, location-based applications and personalised content, Ovi Store will be available on S60 and Series 40 devices. The first device to include the mobile storefront on board will be the Nokia N97, set to launch in June.
Meanwhile tens of millions of existing S60 and Series 40 devices will be able to take advantage of the store from May. Ovi Store is unique in its ability to target content based on where you are, when you’re there, why you are where you are and who else has downloaded similar content.”
That last part, as well as the geo-location features, seems interesting.
Ovi Store will include what it calls a ’social discovery’ feature which will enable users to find out which content is being used by their social network peers, as they will automatically be highlighted and made available for download on their devices.

Nokia, still the number-one maker of mobile phones until further notice, expects that the store will reach 300 million users by 2012. According to The Guardian, Nokia also said 70 percent of revenues from the store would go back to software developers.

As from today, content publishers and developers will be able to register for the Ovi Store here, but they will only be able to upload starting next month. The application store will be gradually rolled out, starting next May in nine countries.
